Wine By Nine

Red Wine by Castello di Bossi from Tuscany, Italy. The vinification of grapes occurs in steel vats. The vines used are Sangiovese 90%, Canaiolo 3% and Merlot 7%. The composition can change a little every single grape harvest. The wine matures in French wood barrels for about 6/8 months. Intense ruby colour, of great luminosity. Sweet sensations of toasted oak exalt the fruity component, where one can smell clear scents of mature cherry, refined by very elegant floral notes of violet. Just at a first tasting one can note the solidity of the product, witnessed by a good structure, where the tannis achieve the right balance with the alcoholic component. Long lasting taste, extremely enjoyable.

Red Wine by Da Vinci from Tuscany, Italy. 95% Sangiovese, 5% Colovino Color: Clear, purple-red Bouquet: Spicy, cedary oak with aromas of black cherries and dark plum fruit. Palate: Well balanced, medium to full bodied wine, ripe with flavors of plum, black cherries and dark fruit. A well structured wine that is ripe and elegant with a silky mouth-feel that lingers in a long earthy, peppery finish This Chianti Classico has enough structure to stand up to robust main courses like Lasagna, Chicken Cacciatore or Osso Bucco but is also excellent with firm and hard cheeses. Serve slightly below room temperature (16?C-20?C).

Red Wine by Badia a Coltibuono from Tuscany, Italy. Due to the even climate, 2005 produced well-balanced wines with good concentration. Intense ruby color, forest berry notes with spicy overtones. Full-flavored, soft, with well-balanced acidity. Clean and persistent aftertaste.

Red Wine by Felsina from Tuscany, Italy. Impressive dark ruby color. Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, plum, mint and cigar box, all lifted by a mineral element. Dense and rich, combining pinot noir-like texture and refinement with syrah-like flavors of rare meat and raspberry liqueur. This boasts a wonderfully tactile feel and a remarkably long, palate-staining finish. A great Chianti with loads of personality. -International Wine Cellar Felsina's single-vineyard 2003 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia presents more overt toasted oak notes along with darker, riper fruit in a structured expression of Chianti Classico. With some time in the glass complex notes of smoke, tobacco, licorice, mint and black cherries emerge, completing this gorgeous and intensely satisfying wine. In two separate tastings I found the Rancia more complex than the Fontalloro, most likely owing to the poorer soils of the Rancia vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. -Wine Advocate

Red Wine by Bonny Doon from Central Coast, California. Blend: 90% Sangiovese, 5% Nero d'Avola, 3% Cinsault, 2% Colorino Nowhere is the evolution of Bonny Doon's grape growing and winemaking efforts more apparent than with Sangiovese. They had been working for many years with a vineyard in Monterey County which produced zaftig and extravagantly fruity wines. The new incarnation of this wine is derived principally from the Gimelli Vineyard in San Benito County. It is quite dark and mysterious, perhaps even brooding at this point. Bonny Doon seems to have channeled a more complex and elemental spectrum of flavors. Peel away one layer to find cherried pipe tobacco smoke, beneath another chocolate tones. From the periphery, liquored cassis and black cherry fruit are beginning to expand to the center. The tannins are quite prominent at the moment, and they are moving in the right direction toward resolution. And beneath it all, is a mineral crunch. This wine should evolve gracefully for at least 4 or 5 years.

Red Wine by Melini from Tuscany, Italy. Bright ruby-red. The bouquet is vinous and fragrant with violets and iris scents and hints of vanilla. The taste is dry, fine and full, pleasantly fruity with an elegant aftertaste of raspberries and almonds. Food pairings: Veal, pork, pizza, pasta in meat sauce.

Palate: Well balanced and medium weight wine with flavors of ripe plums, cherries and red fruit. Lively with a soft mineral finish and round tannins that linger in a long peppery finish. Delicious with all starters, pastas and meat dishes. Serve slightly below room temperature (18? C).
