The inky purple 2003 El Nido, which comes from 26-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines (70%) and 61-year-old Mourvedre (30%), was aged 26 months in new French and American oak barrels. It exhibits leathery, creme de cassis, and pain grille characteristics, additional tannin and body, and a formidable palate. A wine of extraordinary extract and richness, it will be a target for old timers and reactionaries who will feel it is too internationally styled, but it is an eye-opening wine from an area better known for large cooperatives and mediocre quality. It should evolve for 15 or more years. Well-known Australian winemaker, Chris Ringland, oversees the winemaking at this estate, fashioning intriguing reds with great depth as well as richness. These wines have broken all the parameters previously established by the backwater appellation of Jumilla. -Wine Advocate

Red Wine by Vall Llach from Priorat, Spain. In the rolling hills of Porrera, within the winemaking region of Priorat, grow the ancient vines of Celler Vall Llach. Dating back nearly 100 years, these vines supply Vall Llach's flagship wine with its elegant structure and individual character. Like the winery itself, Vall Llach's premium wine is named after one of the owners and founders, the famous Catalan singer Lluis Llach. This proprietary blend is deep cherry in color, with complex and elegant aromas that include nuances of the Mediterranean forest floor, blackberry jam, dried herbs, minerals, and spices. As it enters the mouth, this wine has magnificent flavors of condensed fruit and minerals with a tannin structure that is ripe, sweet, yet delicate. The end result is a long and profound finish with great concentration of aromas and flavors. 65% Cari?ena, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon Celler Vall Llach is fortunate in possessing a selection of magnificent old estates, or trossos, whose 60- to 90-year old Cari?ena vines assure an exclusive foundation for its flagship wine. Always striving to achieve the best quality, Vall Llach cultivates their old vines according to traditional methods. These succulent clusters, along with a strict selection of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, give this wine its distinctive character representative of the Priorat region.

1 cent shipping through June 15th. Details at wine.comRed Wine by Mustiguillo from Spain. A relatively new winery, Mustiguillo was created to give a place and prominence to the unheralded varietal Bobal. The owners believe strongly that this grape, when cropped low and harvested later can produce wines that can rival some of the greatest wines of Northern Spain. As such, many of the old vines of the property have been kept (some as old as 90 years old) and new vines of Bobal planted as well. The Bobal varietal is quite rigorous and very productive. Widely planted in this area, it thrives in the heat of this arid plateau. With dark, thick skins, it is quite interesting when harvested at total physiological maturity, producing wines that are very dark (sometimes appearing black) with aromas of chocolate, cocoa, and sometimes blood. Many of the old vines are unfortunately being ripped out in the area and replaced by more popular varietals such as Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Mustiguillo's mission is to protect this indigenous varietal and nurture it into what has become, according to many experts, one of Spain's most fascinating wines. 90% Bobal, 6% Tempranillo, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon from very high altitude, warm vineyards where the vines are over 90 years old. Aged for 16 months in French oak.
