Pinot Blanc

White Wine by Chalone from Central Coast, California. The 2005 Pinot Blanc was whole-cluster pressed with no crushing or destemming of the grapes. The 21-day fermentation took place half in barrel with natural yeast, and half in stainless steel, inoculated with yeast. The wine was then aged for 9 months in French oak barrels to enhance the finish. Leaving the wine on the lees adds the signature hazelnut character typical of Chalone white wines and builds roundness and finish. This lovely wine offers bright flavors of crisp apple and brioche. It has a wonderful smooth and creamy texture, medium to full body and balanced acidity. Enjoy it on its own as an aperitif before a meal, or paired with chicken salad with tarragon and walnuts, poached dilled salmon or creamy pasta Alfredo.

White Wine by WillaKenzie Estate from Willamette Valley, Oregon. The 2006 Pinot Blanc has an attractive gold-green color which suggests its bright, fresh quality. The aromas offer a lively blend of tropical fruits - papaya, pineapple and honeydew melon - and subtle floral tones of orange blossom and honeysuckle. The flavors follow the aromas and the wine has richness on the palate that is well balanced by crisp acidity, and a distinctive mineral note on the finish. This elegant Pinot Blanc should be served chilled, and will drink well over the next 2-3 years. Try it as an aperitif or as a complement to a wide variety of dishes such as shellfish, grilled chicken or grilled vegetables, pasta in a cream sauce, a brunch of quiche and salad, or a dinner of Asian cuisine.

White Wine by Valley of the Moon from Sonoma County, California. This traditional Alsatian-style wine is a blend of grapes from vineyards that are located in the Russian River Valley and the Southern Sonoma Valley. Both viticultural areas have deep alluvial soil and a cool climate due to the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean and the San Pablo Bay. These cool microclimates are responsible for preserving the crisp acidity and fresh fruit character of the wine. Aromas of honeysuckle, pear and lime are accented with a hint of hazelnut. Rich and complex tropical and citrus fruit flavors lead to a creamy finish balanced with crisp green apple tartness. This perfectly balanced Pinot Blanc pairs well with seafood, shellfish (particularly oysters), poultry, salads, fruits, light pastas and mild cheeses. Its structure and fruity flavors also complement spicy cuisine.

White Wine by Hugel from Alsace, France - regions. Delicate, subtle and well built, it makes an excellent aperitif because, although nicely rounded, it is also refreshing. The perfect all-purpose dry white wine. Shows great minerality and intensity for an entry-level wine. Pencilly aromas, with an element akin to graphite, but also citrus and green-apple and lemon mixed with stony, minerally notes. It's only medium-bodied, but the finish is long and almost painfully intense. Wine Enthusiast 90 points
